"The McIntyre Files" is an extensive book, published in December 2007 after 32 years of research, detailing the Ancestors of Ian Angus McIntyre of Rattray, Perthshire, Scotland and Kamloops, B.C. Canada. A Pedigree Chart at the beginning of the book shows six generations of the family. The book is 8½" x 11" in size with a soft laminated cover, has 425 pages and weighs 1.2 kilograms. It is a narrative account of Ian's McIntyre and Robertson ancestors and their lives in Scotland and England as well as an account of Ian's life in Scotland and Canada. The book weaves facts about the family lines, gathered from years of genealogical research, in with family stories and social, ethnic, oral and women's history. It makes for a fascinating combination.
It is fully sourced, has a Table of Contents, a 27 page Index and includes over 550 photographs, maps and illustrations as well as comprehensive Descendancy Charts for the McIntyre, McGregor, Smith, Taylor, Laird, Robertson, Meiklejohn, McConnell and Fletcher families. There is also considerable information about other allied lines such as Galloway, Grant, Livingston, McEwan, Carmichael, Campbell and Baddeley.Counties of interest are Angus, Argyll, Dunbarton, Inverness, Lanarkshire, Perthshire and Renfrew in Scotland and Staffordshire in England. The author, Gillian McIntyre Gaiser, the widow of Ian,was born in England in 1939 and immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1962 where she met Ian McIntyre, her future husband. They were marriedin 1964 and immediately moved to Kamloops, in the Interior of B.C., where Ian went into business as a partner in Central Reproduction and Engineering Supplies.
Following the birth of their two sons, Gillian decided that it was important that they should know something of their heritage and, in 1975,started delving into their family history. After Ian's premature death in 1991, writing a book about the McIntyres, which would include Ian's life, assumed more importance. "The McIntyre Files" is the result and, although it has been written for the family, it is sure to be of interest to many others researching the same lines. The book has been truly a "Labour of Love" and it is available for only 43 dollars Can [which is my cost for printing] plus postage and handling. P & H cost to International destinations e.g. UK, Australia and N.Z. is now 25 dollars CAN for a single copy [costs went up again in January 2009 I'm afraid!].
